Building a New Brand for a New Kind of Community Bank

The Scenario:

When Pinnacle Bank and Morris Bank made the decision to join forces, both were already influential community banks with deep roots across Georgia. The merger offered each bank an opportunity to achieve greater growth while preserving the qualities that made them successful, including local decision-making, trusted relationships, and an enduring commitment to their communities. Together, a unified brand could serve a broader range of customer needs without sacrificing the personal connections at the heart of community banking.

From the beginning, leaders at both banks viewed the merger as a partnership. That collaborative approach impacted an important early decision: the unified bank would move forward under a new identity rather than retain either legacy brand or name. Building a collective future gave both banks an equal stake in their shared success and provided an opportunity to define what the new institution would stand for. The challenge was to create a distinctive brand that honored the strengths and values of both banks while establishing a clear identity for the organization they were becoming. That new identity is Vallant Bank, a brand created to convey the strength, trust, and ambition of the new organization.

Vallant is a thoughtful evolution of the word valiant, representing courage, strength and resilience. These attributes are what both companies are known for in our communities.”
– Jackson McConnell, Executive Chairman, Vallant Bank

The Solution:

Partnering with Vallant’s leadership and teams across both legacy banks, Adrenaline approached the engagement as a comprehensive brand transformation, not merely a naming or identity exercise. The process began with discovery and market research to understand the strengths and cultures of both banks. Those insights informed the development of a shared brand strategy, followed by naming and name testing, strategic messaging, and visual identity development. From there, the new brand came to life across Vallant’s branch network, employee and customer experiences, and market-facing communications.

At the center of the strategy was a shared belief in the power of community banking paired with the capabilities of a larger organization. Inspired by “valiant” and “gallant,” the new Vallant name evokes resilience and confidence. The brand positioning of “Reach Higher” expresses the bank’s ambition for customers, employees, and communities.

The Story:

Bringing the Vallant brand to life required more than simply introducing a new name to the market. For a transformation of this scale to succeed, employees across the organization needed to understand what the new brand represents and see themselves as part of it.

The bank’s leaders brought in stakeholders throughout the process, engaging employees from different roles and markets to help inform the type of organization Vallant would become. That participation helped build a core collaborative culture alongside the new brand.

Strategic alignment teams gathered staff members from across the organization to define how the new unified brand would come to life. A brand ambassador program extended that engagement across Vallant’s markets, giving local staff resources and advocates who could help introduce the new brand and reinforce the shared culture over time.

This isn’t just a name change. It’s a declaration of our shared purpose to serve Georgia and the Southeast as the premier community banking partner.”
– Spence Mullis, President, Vallant Bank

The employee launch brought that internal advocacy work together with 600 employees gathering to experience Vallant as one unified brand. Representing markets across Georgia, brand ambassadors helped welcome in the new identity, creating a brand launch centered on employee engagement and shared ownership.

The enthusiastic response reflects the value of involving employees throughout the transformation and giving people from both banks a role in shaping what comes next. Just as important as introducing the new brand was reinforcing what would remain unchanged.

Following the merger, Vallant has retained employees, allowing customers to continue working with the bankers and teams they already knew. The same people remain active in their local communities and continue building the relationships that had long distinguished both banks. Maintaining staffing continuity has helped Vallant establish meaningful change without sacrificing the familiarity and trust customers valued.

Translating the brand across the branch network presented one of the transformation’s most complex challenges. Vallant’s locations varied significantly in architecture, size, and market, making a uniform application of the brand both impractical and inauthentic. Instead, the brand embraced a flexible design framework to create consistency while leaving room for local expression.

The distinctive Vallant “V” and other upward visual cues bring the “Reach Higher” positioning into the physical environment and reinforce the brand’s sense of momentum and ambition.

Recognizable Vallant elements establish a cohesive presence across the network, while custom photography, community imagery, and location-specific messaging help each branch maintain a strong connection to the community it serves.

The flexible system also allows Vallant to extend the brand efficiently across a network rooted in relationships. Across 47 unique locations in four major Georgia regions, the rollout established a scalable brand experience designed as a platform for Vallant’s holistic expansion strategy.

Early enthusiasm shows that the new brand is already gaining traction. Employees have embraced the brand with energy, customers have begun recognizing the Vallant name, and industry peers have responded positively to the newly unified organization.

Vallant now has a brand that reflects the promise behind the merger, bringing greater strength and reach to customers while preserving the relationships, local presence, and community commitment that have always defined the bank.

I am truly excited to now bring our two teams together under one new name and brand, solidifying our shared values and long-standing relationship. Together, we’ll be a leading Georgia community bank the entire state can be proud to call its own.”
